What is the SE152 flexible coupling?
The Hutchinson Paulstra SE152, also known as MPP®, is a compact flexible coupling designed to transmit torque between two shafts while providing flexibility within the transmission.
It consists of a cross-shaped polyurethane resilient element positioned between two cast iron hubs fitted with drive fingers.
- Nominal torque: from 30 to 650 N.m depending on the reference.
- Maximum torque: up to 2,000 N.m.
- Maximum speed: up to 9,000 rpm.
- Operating temperature: from -30 °C to +70 °C continuously.
- Assembly: push-fit assembly.
- Manufactured in: France.
What are the advantages of the SE152 MPP®?
✅ Compact design: its compact cylindrical shape makes it easy to integrate into a transmission system.
✅ Simple assembly: the components are assembled by push-fitting.
✅ Compression operation: the polyurethane spider operates in compression between the drive fingers of the hubs.
✅ Positive safety: the design maintains a mechanical connection between the two parts of the coupling.
✅ Flexible transmission: the MPP® provides torsional, radial, axial and angular flexibility.
What applications is the SE152 suitable for?
The SE152 is particularly suitable for connecting a motor to a driven machine. The technical data sheet notably shows the example of an electric motor coupled to a centrifugal pump.
How does the SE152 coupling work?
The polyurethane spider is positioned between the drive fingers of the two hubs. During torque transmission, the resilient element operates in compression.
The MPP® design provides several types of flexibility:
- torsional flexibility;
- radial flexibility;
- axial flexibility through the push-fit assembly;
- angular flexibility.
Recommendation: do not subject the coupling to high axial tensile loads, as this could cause the resilient element to slide out of the drive fingers of the hubs.

How to choose and install your SE152 coupling?
Selection mainly depends on the motor power, rotational speed, torque to be transmitted and shaft dimensions.
The technical data sheet provides a selection guide for standard three-phase 50 Hz asynchronous motors operating at approximately 3,000, 1,500, 1,000 or 750 rpm.
- MPP® 3: nominal torque 30 N.m.
- MPP® 8: nominal torque 80 N.m.
- MPP® 20: nominal torque 200 N.m.
- MPP® 38: nominal torque 380 N.m.
- MPP® 65: nominal torque 650 N.m.
Paulstra installation example: connection between an electric motor and a centrifugal pump, with the coupling mounted on the motor flywheel using an adapter.
