What is a flexible bush?

The Hutchinson Paulstra flexible bush replaces a mechanical joint for oscillating or pivoting movements with limited amplitude. It consists of an elastomer ring pre-compressed between two concentric cylindrical metal sleeves.

The deformation of the rubber helps eliminate mechanical play, reduce noise and vibration, and avoid periodic lubrication.

What are its advantages and the main types?

No lubrication required: movement is provided by deformation of the elastomer.
No mechanical play: reduced friction, noise and vibration.
Several types of loading: radial, axial, torsional or conical.
Flexibloc: elastomer bonded between the two tubes, series 560 / 561.
Silentbloc: press-fitted elastomer ring, series 861 / 862 / 864.
BL: flexible bush fitted with a lateral stop.

Flexible bushes are suitable for mechanisms involving reciprocating, oscillating or pivoting movements, particularly in mobile equipment, engines and industrial machinery.

How does a flexible bush work?

The choice mainly depends on the type of load applied:

Radial load

The load causes an elastic offset of the inner tube.

Torsion

Torque applied around the axis causes angular deformation.

Axial load

The axial load causes displacement through shear deformation of the elastomer.

Conical movement

Torque perpendicular to the axis causes conical deformation.

How to choose your flexible bush?

The choice depends on the dimensions, radial or axial loads, torsional or conical angles and, under dynamic operating conditions, the frequency of the loads.

Most standard models are made from natural rubber. Above 70°C, or in the presence of oils, fuels, acids, alkalis, ozone or chlorine, please contact us to check the compatibility of the elastomer compound.
