REGUPOL Sound and Drain 22 Overview

REGUPOL Sound and Drain 22 is a resilient acoustic drainage mat designed to reduce the transmission of impact noise and vibrations through outdoor structures such as terraces, balconies, loggias and roof terraces.

Made from polyurethane-bonded rubber fibres, this 15 mm thick material combines three functions: impact sound insulation, rainwater drainage and mechanical protection of waterproofing membranes.

Depending on the installation configuration, it can achieve an impact sound reduction of up to 37 dB under the specified laboratory test conditions.

Applications and Installation Configurations

REGUPOL Sound and Drain 22 can be incorporated into different outdoor flooring systems. The following four configurations combine acoustic comfort, drainage and waterproofing membrane protection.

The acoustic performance values refer to specific floor assemblies evaluated under laboratory conditions. They do not represent guaranteed results for every installation.

1. Concrete Paving Slabs on Pedestals with Continuous Acoustic Mat

The REGUPOL mat is laid over the designated surface beneath the terrace pedestals. Concrete paving slabs are then positioned on height-adjustable pedestals.

Tested configuration: 53 mm concrete paving slabs supported by adjustable pedestals, with REGUPOL Sound and Drain 22 and a reference supporting structure.

Impact sound reduction: ΔLw ≥ 37 dB

2. Ceramic Terrace Tiles on Adjustable Pedestals

REGUPOL Sound and Drain 22 can be installed beneath the pedestals supporting ceramic terrace tiles. For certain installations, custom-cut acoustic pads may be considered to isolate individual support points.

Tested configuration: 20 mm ceramic tiles installed on adjustable pedestals with REGUPOL Sound and Drain 22.

Impact sound reduction: ΔLw = 35 dB

This performance corresponds to the tested assembly and must not automatically be applied to alternative installations using individual acoustic pads only.

3. Concrete Paving Slabs on a Gravel Bed

REGUPOL Sound and Drain 22 can be installed beneath a gravel bed supporting concrete paving slabs. This solution combines a resilient acoustic layer with a terrace construction system designed for outdoor applications.

Tested configuration: 50 mm concrete paving slabs, 40 mm gravel bed with 2/8 mm aggregate size, REGUPOL acoustic mat and a reference roof construction.

Impact sound reduction: ΔLw = 35 dB

4. Timber Decking on Joists

The acoustic mat can be installed beneath the joists or supporting elements of a timber deck, depending on the construction system. It helps reduce the transmission of footsteps and impact noise to the underlying structure.

Tested configuration: 27 mm timber decking boards on supporting battens, with REGUPOL Sound and Drain 22 and a reference roof construction.

Impact sound reduction: ΔLw = 30 dB

How to Install REGUPOL Sound and Drain 22 Beneath Terrace Pedestals

When using custom-cut acoustic pads, the main preparation and installation stages are as follows:

1. Prepare the substrate: check its condition and mark the intended pedestal positions.
2. Position the acoustic pads: place the custom-cut REGUPOL components at the designated support points.
3. Install the pedestals: position the adjustable pedestals on the acoustic pads in accordance with the system manufacturer's instructions.
4. Install the floor covering: lay the appropriate paving slabs, tiles or structural elements.

Loads, pedestal spacing, material compatibility and drainage requirements must be assessed for each project. Always follow the manufacturer's recommendations and the applicable specifications for the terrace construction system.

Installation Recommendations

• Check the compatibility of REGUPOL Sound and Drain 22 with the waterproofing membrane used in the project.
• Where thermal insulation is present, ensure that its compressive strength is suitable for the expected loads and floor construction.
• A trial installation may be carried out to assess the behaviour and stability of the proposed construction system.
